SUMMARY:Columbia River Field Schol
DESCRIPTION:The Columbia River Field School is a summer learning adventure 
 for students aged 15-18. Participants will paddle key sections of the Cana
 dian side of the Columbia River and camp along its riverbank\, while learn
 ing about the watershed’s past\, present and future.\n\nSpanning 15 days
 \, students meet with a diverse group of guest speakers including governme
 nt officials\, Indigenous knowledge holders\, scientists\, artists\, and a
 dventurers. Participants earn Recreational Canoe Association of BC certifi
 cations\, and gain important outdoor skills like reading maps\, packing\, 
 cooking\, setting up camp and leave no trace practices. But most important
 ly\, they will gain an appreciation for this watershed and the intricate r
 ole we all play in its protection.\n\nParticipants also receive four credi
 ts from School District 8 for successful completion of the program!\n\nApp
 lications due Sunday\, March 29th.\n\nTrip dates: Saturday July 4th throu
 gh Saturday\, July 18th.\n\nEligibility: \n\nTo be eligible\, you must be
  15\, 16\, 17\, or 18 years old on July 12th. Preference is given to stude
 nts living within the Columbia Basin. We will provide accepted students an
 d their families with an information packet in advance to help them prepar
 e for the trip.\n\nSuggested contribution: $2\,00–4\,000. Up to 100% fin
 ancial aid (i.e. no cost) available if needed. All food\, transportation\,
  and specialized gear for the trip will be provided (except for travel to 
 and from start/end locations\; we will facilitate carpooling).
