According to Ukrainian folklore the fate of the world depends upon the Pysanka. If, for any reason, this custom is abandoned, evil–in the shape of a giant serpent chained to a cliff– will overrun the world. Each year the serpent counts how many pysanky in the world has increased, the chains are tightened and good triumphs over evil for another year.
This class will guide you through the wax-resist technique of dying eggs, similar to batik work done on fabric, using traditional Ukrainian folk designs.
