Get educated early to help make good choices for the full season. The AST 1 course is designed by Avalanche Canada to suit the needs of recreationists. Prerequisites: ability to thermoregulate outdoors in the winter and the intention to try backcountry skiing or snowboarding, and be a member of the Alpine Club of Canada -Columbia Mountains Section. Gear requirements: 3 antenna transceiver, metal/not plastic shovel, and 3m probe, warm clothes and food for standing comfortably outdoors for hours (note: 2 beacons, transceivers, and probes are available to borrow from the ACC section: indicate on the registration form if needed). Cost: $155 Registration is first come, first served, and 5 spots will be reserved for participants in the Alpine Starts Mentorship program.
